Oakland, CA -- Opening day went about as good as you could have asked for Oakland fans. The Athletic's beat the Rangers and slugger Alex Rodriguez 10-2. Tim Hudson led off the game looking slightly shaky promptly letting Texas score in the first inning, giving up an RBI single to Raphael Palmeiro.
The Athletics offensive power was brought to life with a mammoth three run blast off the bat of Jeremy Giambi that cleared the wall by plenty. Miguel Tejada finished the day 4-5 however failed to drive in a run. "I'm glad I could contribute today in front of these fans," Giambi said. "I kinda felt like a doofus last year getting gunned out by Jeter in the ALDS, I'm glad that sour taste is gone now." Hudson pitched 7 1/3 innings, allowing 9 hits, 2 ER, and punching out eight in his start. Chad Bradford and Jim Mecir helped close the door for Hudson's first win of the season, not allowing a run. "Great start to the season, the big bats showed up and we got help up and down the lineup. Defensively we were great," Manager Eric Graham said after the game.

GOAT OF THE GAME:
TEX SS Alex Rodriguez, went 1-5 with 2 strikeouts, also had an error (odd for the usual sure-handed Rodriguez) and ended the game with a line out/double play. A chorus of laughter was heard after Rodriguez walked into the dugout.
