TEJADA SCORCHING OUT OF THE GATE

by Clive Dahlton

Sea, WA -- It may be to early to talk about the potential MVP, but Miguel Tejada is making a strong case, forcing people to talking about him. Tejada is now hitting .519 with four longballs and seven runs driven in. Tejada added to his amazing start going 3-4 with two jacks and four ribbies. "He is completely locked in," Graham said.

Barry Zito ensured Tejada's night would not be overlooked with a loss, pitching seven innings allowing just one run, punching out seven in his second start. Zito (2-0, .60 ERA) allowed his first run of the season tonight, allowing a sharp single off the bat of Ruben Sierra. Teammates joked with Zito after being taken out of the game in the 8th inning. "Welcome to the ERA club man," Tim Hudson joked.

The Athletics win puts them atop the tightly contested American League West, and visit the Texas Rangers next. In Graham's post-game presser he joked about benching Tejada, "Yeah, the guy is totally in a funk right now."
