Texas -- Texas knocked around rival Oakland at the ballpark in Arlington by a score of 10-1. Hiljus (0-2, 4.50 ERA) was charged with the loss, going 4 1/3 innings, giving up 5 runs, 2 ER, and giving up 3 gopher balls. "The errors tonight were just completely uncalled for," Graham said after the game. "We brought Ellis up for his defense as well as his bat, and he makes two errors on routine grounders."
Miguel Tejada also saw his batting average plummet, going 0-4. His season average now stands at .500, a testament to his amazing start. "Miggys still going to hit," Graham said. "You would be foolish to think he's going to hit .500, but you'd be foolish to think hes not going to be in the MVP race. Players have off games, he had one today."
Doug Davis (2-0, .60 ERA) got the win, going eight innings, scattering five hits, striking out four, and walking four. Davis didn't have to be particularly stellar either, Oakland's lineup recorded seven hits, but they all seemed to come with two outs and no one on. Terrence Long broke out going 3-4, however, not driving in a single run. The Athletics only run of the day came in the ninth inning where a sac fly off the bat of Scott Hatteberg scored Terrence Long from third. Long also had the highlight of the day, perhaps the only highlight for Oakland, when he robbed Ivan Rodriguez of a homerun in the first by scaling the wall in left center to bring it back. "That thing was over the wall," Pudge said after the game. "No idea how he grabbed that one back."
Graham assured one thing during the post-game presser: "Changes are coming, this isn't working out. It's gonna be a shakeup come next game. No way we're heading out to Anaheim to get slaughtered."
