ANGELS RIP ZITO, MANAGER UNDER FIRE

by Clive Dahlton

Ana, CA -- The Athletic's have one of the toughest schedules in the majors to start the year. All they had to do was weather the storm and wait for better days ahead. Instead, the Athletics are doing the exact opposite, daily lineup changes and odd in-game management has placed new manager Eric Graham under intense scrutiny from the press.

Zito was clearly not effective at all, however once the Athletics gave him a lead in the fourth inning, Graham left the struggling and wild Zito in the game to pitch the 5th for him to get the win, thats when everything went horribly awry. The Angels ripped Zito for eight earned, clocking 10 hits off the southpaw, as he took the loss, watching his once impressive .60 ERA skyrocket to 4.05.

Some of the A's fans attending the game expressed their distaste for the in-game calls. "Their aint' no consistency man, we be givin up when we down," A's fan Carl Masterson said. "It like we just packed it in after the fifth." Graham answered the criticism with a few jabs of his own towards the media. "[expletive deleted] you guys. This is a team that will contend for the AL pennant you act like they're some throw away team from Detroit," Graham said. "I can't get caught up in the bullshit you are writing about me, or the fans that wanna diss the team after 10 games."

When asked if another lineup change was to be expected, Graham replied: "I'm the manager, if I wanna change it I'll change it as many times as I want, you guys are scum."

Things are going from bad to worse in Oakland. The big three (Hudson, Zito, Mulder) were in line to try to swing momentum back to the bay area, instead the Angel's have made it an unruly welcome party. Mark Mulder takes the hill hoping to salvage a win for the club, and get the Athletic's back on track.
